U.S. Senators Boxer and Kerry Ready to Submit Climate Bill to the Senate

After  months of delay, postponing, discussions, committees, and recess, U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer (D – Calif.) and John Kerry (D – Mass.) have stated that they are ready to introduce the new Climate Bill to the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

However, this is by no means the end of the story but possibly just the beginning of another round of negotiations, buzzwords, chest-pounding, and MSNBC and CNN appearances.

It is unclear as to what will remain from the original Climate Bill that passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, but it is speculated that there will be some stricter emissions standards on some points. For instance, it is believed the 17% carbon reduction by 2020 has been changed to a 20% reduction. Also, the language in regards to intensive manufacturing may have been removed from the original bill.

Senator Kerry has stated he has no delusions and realizes this will merely be a starting point. Senator Kerry hopes to  be able to convince conservative and moderate Democrats and Republicans alike that this new Climate Bill is needed and worth their support. Senator Kerry also stated that this is not a “cap-and-trade” bill it is a “pollution reduction bill”.

But, like clockwork, some Republicans have already come out to day that the climate bill with raise prices on commodities and destroy jobs. To be fair though, some Democrats that represent manufacturing intensive states such as Michigan have also spoken about the new bill already as well.
