New Solar Design Brings Solar Thermal Technology to an Industrial Rooftop Near You

by AlwaysGreen - October 30th, 2009. Tagged as: , , , , , .

When we think of rooftop solar technology everyone will more than likely think of solar panel arrays formed from photovoltaic solar cells. However, a new California-based company has taken another solar design to the rooftops.

A company called Spogoy has designed a solar system that enables solar thermal technology to be installed on top on industrial facilities.

Typically, solar thermal facilities are built on vast open areas with hundreds, if not thousands, of mirrors all directing sunlight to a central heating tower several stories high. But, Spogoy’s design is only 8 feet long, 2.5 feet wide, and can be installed by local HVAC and plumbing professionals.

Also, Spogoy claims the solar thermal system can be used to power air conditioners, dying, dehumidification, and desalination. The technology can potentially keep natural gas use so low that the system pays for itself in 3 years.

  1. That’s awesome! I want one. I wonder if most HOA’s in Southern California will allow someone to setup something like that in their backyard. I’ll have to check out the links. That’s an awesome solar technology though.
