However, we at GreenHarbor.org find it be one of the most important aspects of Going Green. But now, energy efficiency is becoming big business for college students seeking business management internships that make an impact.
According to one of the top management consulting groups, McKinsey and Co., the U.S. can easily reach its carbon reduction limits set by President Obama.
McKinsey and Co. representatives have stated that if the U.S. were to concentrate on energy efficiency upgrades than over the next 10 years the annual energy consumption of the U.S. will drop by 23%. They also state that this is the most cost effective solution to both businesses and individuals.
Understanding this knowledge, the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) has set up a program known as the Climate Corps which places top MBA students with major corporations such as AMD, Cisco, and Target in an effort to help these corporations focus on their energy efficiency goals.
During the past summer that this Climate Corps program has been implemented, MBA interns were placed at 23 different companies and brought about change that saved the corporations a total of $54 million and reduced annual carbon emissions by 100,000 tons.
EDFs Climate Corps has shown tremendous success and the impact of energy efficiency. We can only hope they continue their work and others take notice that sometimes the most dull is the most important.
