New Sustainable Winegrowers Certification Program Launched in California

California continues to be a leading state in all things Green. The newest development to come from the state is a new sustainable winegrowers certification program.

The California Sustainable Winegrowers Alliance (CSWA) has developed the new certification program and has also released it’s lasted sustainability report on California winegrowers.

CSWA’s new certification program is voluntary and open to all wineries and vineyards. Interested parties must first meet 58 prerequisites to even be considered for the for program.

Once accepted, the wineries and vineyards receive an assessment of their operations and an action plan for moving forward. Sometimes only certain operation of the farm are certified as the vineyard makes improvements going forward.

About 68% of all California wineries and vineyards have worked with the CSWA in some form or another and the areas that still need improvement are energy efficiency, solid waste materials management, and sustainably sourced raw material purchasing
